Obituary

Geneva (Browning) Coffey Belding, 83, of North Vernon, Indiana formerly of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at her residence with her family by her side. Geneva was a caring loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a selfless person who would put others needs before her own throughout her life. Many many people called her their best friend. She was born on January 25, 1940 in Perry County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Boyd Browning and Marie (Eversole) Browning. Geneva attended Little York Grade School and graduated from Salem High School in 1959. On September 5, 1959 she married Dr. John Coffey, who passed in January of 1986. On August 31, 2008 she married Paul Belding, who survives. Later in life she attended Indiana University Southeast and was a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. She retired as an optician from Dr. John Coffey and Drs. Downing & Roberts Optometrists in Scottsburg, Indiana. After her retirement she opened and was owner of Quilts and More Country Store in Scottsburg, Indiana and retired again in 2008. Geneva was a member of the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana, but has attended Seymour Christian Church since moving to North Vernon, where she enjoyed being a part of the church and the ladies Bible study. Her hobbies were gardening, playing card games, traveling to Florida and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband of fifteen years, Paul; son, John Coffey of Columbus, Indiana; daughter, Dr. Sherri (Matt) Nuss of Russiaville, Indiana; grandson, Collin (Christopher) Nuss of Kokomo, Indiana; stepdaughter, Paula (Ed) Pratt of Auburndale, Florida; stepson, Jeff Belding of North Vernon, Indiana; three sisters, Deloris (Mike) Brown, Leola Vanover, and Virgie Baker; one brother, Ronnie (Lela) Browning; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and first husband, Dr. John Coffey; Geneva was preceded in death by a grandson, Carson Nuss; three sisters, Pauline Adams, Della Bowling and Sadie Marie Browning and two brothers, Irvin and J.B. Browning. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Bro. Elmer Barger officiating. Visitation 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, October 20, 2023 and after 10:00 am Saturday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
