JOHN PRICE HOWARD died on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Indian Creek Nursing Home in Corydon, Indiana. He was the son of the late John and Thelma I. Howard. He was born on February 26, 1947, being 75 years and 11 months of age at the time of his passing. He grew up in Orchard Branch, near Blackey in Letcher County, Kentucky, and attended Letcher High School. He volunteered for the U.S. Army (Infantry) and was wounded in combat near Pleiku, Vietnam in October, 1967. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He graduated from Indiana University in 1981, the same year his beloved Hoosiers men's basketball team won the national championship. He worked for the IRS, the U.S. Postal Service in Louisville, Kentucky, and was a social worker in Hazard and Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Scrabble and solving crossword puzzles. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Joe Howard, and is survived by three sons, Travis Bagby of New Albany, Indiana; Clay Howard of Richmond, Kentucky; and Sam Howard of Decatur, Alabama; three brothers, Jerry Howard of Lexington, Indiana, George Howard of Lexington, Indiana, and Wally Howard of Shelbyville, Indiana; one sister, Jeanette Howard Adams of Clarksville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
