Alton "Pappy" Marion Hall, 84, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 14, 2021. He was born on July 6, 1937, in Underwood, Indiana. He was the son of Herman and Mildred (Henthorn) Hall and younger brother of Freda (Hall) Riley and Delano (Hall) Lesnet. Alton married Shirley P. (Clem) Hall on September 27, 1958, and they had two daughters Debbie and Rhonda. He was a lifelong resident of Underwood, Indiana, and known to many there as "The Mayor." He was a member of Underwood Baptist Church where he served for many years as a deacon and trustee and currently attended Vienna Baptist Church. He was also a member of Henryville Masonic Lodge 651 and formerly served on the Underwood Volunteer Fire Department. Alton loved helping others, whether it be fixing a furnace, washer and dryer, or cooking them breakfast. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, visiting Ace Hardware in Scottsburg and teaching his great- granddaughters how to drive his John Deere. Alton was a tireless worker and retired on three separate occasions, from Hardigg Industries, Derby Fabricating and finally from Majesty Express. He also worked many years at Louisville Cement, Miner's Gas, and as a truck driver for Pepsi. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, an infant brother Arthur Hall and his daughter Deb (Hall) Hougland. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shirley Hall, daughter Rhonda (Ron) Snedden, granddaughter Brittney (Scott) Farner and great-granddaughters Mia and Lila Polley and Clara Farner. He is also survived by a brother-in-law John B. Clem, Sr. and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor David Carroll officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Wednesday and after 9:00 am Thursday at Collins Funeral Home. Masonic service will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, Interment will be at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
