Obituary

Anna Lee Burns, a devoted mother, beloved friend, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on October 24, 1932, in Hazard, Kentucky, Anna spent most of life in Scottsburg, Indiana, where she became a familiar and loving presence.

Anna dedicated much of her life to caring for others, working as a Nurse's Aide at Scott County Hospital, where her compassion and gentle manner left a lasting impression on her patients and colleagues. Her commitment to service extended beyond healthcare; she also served as a custodian at Johnson School for 20 years, ensuring that children had a clean and welcoming environment to learn and grow.

An expert in the art of crafting, Anna found joy in crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Her hands were skilled in the creation of beautiful pieces that reflected her love for her family and friends. Anna was especially known for her delicious cooking and baking, delighting loved ones with her famous apple pies, fudge, and peanut brittle. Each dish she created was infused with warmth and love, making gatherings memorable and special.

A proud member of Grace Covenant Church of God, Anna's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a source of strength and support to many in her church community, embodying the values of kindness and service.

Anna leaves behind her sons, Rickey (Bonnie) Burns and Danny (Barbara) Burns, and her daughter, Mary Lynn (Danny) Hall, her grandchildren, Jody (Aaron) Lewis, Derek (Julie) Burns, Christy (Derek) Turner and Heather (Doug) Merriman, her great-grandchildren, Harley Tyler Gray, Lincoln Burns, Juniper Burns, Carolina Burns, Ruby Grace Burns, Bentley Mahaney, Breeleigh Henson, Jack Turner, Rhett Turner and Koen Merriman as well as two sisters, Dana Herald and Brenda Pennington, who will carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, William Carmack and Orlena Deaton Carmack, her husband, Raymond Burns, her son, Raymond Wade Burns and her siblings, Athalean Miner, Ada Robbins and Billy Ray Carmack.

Friends may visit with Anna's family Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 4:00 pm until service time at 6:30 pm at Collins Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 13, 2025 at Scottsburg Cemetery where Anna will be laid to rest next to her husband, Raymond Burns.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Grace Covenant Church of God or The Refuge in care of Grace Covenant Church, honoring Anna's commitment to her faith and community.
