Bertha Bridgewater, 97, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Bertha was born on March 11, 1925, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Add and Ellen (Mason) Riley. On October 10, 1953, she married Lee Bridgewater at the First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana.
Bertha worked at the old U.S. Shoe Factory in Crothersville, Indiana for sixteen years and at the Scott County School District #2 as a cook for 26 years, retiring in 1989. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Scottsburg, Indiana for over fifty years, a Guild member at Scott Memorial Hospital and a member of the Scott County Genealogical Society.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Lee; Bertha is preceded in death by her two sisters, Othia Evanoff and Etsie Morgan; three brothers, Charles Riley, Elihu Riley, and Willie Riley. Survivors include a son, Gregory Lee (Deborah) Bridgewater; brother, Barton (Rita) Riley; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann (Robert) Sturm and Brian Lee (Karrah Aubry) Bridgewater; four great-grandchildren, Tybenn, Ella, and Eva Sturm, and Wren Bridgewater; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment to follow services at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
