Obituary

Billie Jean Land Shelton, 88 of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at her home with family by her side. She was born December 18, 1936, in Hazard, Perry County, Kentucky to William and Lula Boyd Land. On September 11, 1954, she married James R. Shelton. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2021. She was a retired Nurses Aide, working at the Rockcastle Hospital in Mount Vernon, Kentucky. She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, her daughter, Melissa J. "Missy" Marion and her siblings, Jimmy Land, Ronald Land, Sammy Campbell, David Campbell, Terry Campbell, Janie Moore and Joyce Cox. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children Mike Shelton, Judy (Jim) Donohue, Susie Shelton, Jimmy (Beth) Shelton and Lisa (Gaylon) Calahan; her brother, Jerry Campbell; her sister, Gale Conor; a sister-in-law, Gernetta Land and a very special brother-in-law Billy Reed (Dessie) Shelton; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends may visit with her family from 11:00 am until time of service at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Pastors Tony Shelton and Jonathan Shelton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society in c/o Collins Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Emmanuel Baptist Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana.
