Bobbie (Murray) Colwell, 94, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday July 1st. She was born on March 23, 1929, in Burning Springs, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Robert Murray and Amanda (Wilson) Murray. On April 23, 1951, she married Edward Colwell, who passed away on January 20, 1997. Bobbie and Edward loved to go camping and traveling with family. They loved the beaches in Florida and vacationing in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.
Bobbie was a longtime member of the Grace Covenant Church of God where she was very active with leadership roles in the ladies' ministries. She had a heart to minister to bereaved families through planning and coordinating funeral dinners. Bobbie was the leader of the church prayer chain and a member of the prayer team. She was a past member of the church choir where she stood beside her husband and sang praises to her Lord and Savior. She held Bible study groups in her home, and she was famous for her fried apple pies. She loved spending time with her immediate family and for many years held family reunions at her home for the Murray family. Bobbie was employed at the old US Shoe in Crothersville. Upon it closing, she went to work at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus where she retired in 1994.
In addition to her parents, Bobbie is preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and 11 siblings, John Murray, Mary Rice, Maxie Rice, Sam Murray, Dallas Murray, Elva Buttrey, Hobert Murray, Zola Fields, Vida Thompson, Georgia Deaton, William Murray. Her survivors include daughter, Sandra (Paul) Burns of Scottsburg, Indiana; granddaughter Alisha (CJ) Claypool of Newburgh, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Grace Covenant Church of God in Austin, Indiana with Pastor Steve Gwaltney officiating. Visitation 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Wednesday prior to the services at the church. Interment to follow at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
