Brenda Kay Cowan, 69, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025 in Jeffersonville, Indiana at Norton Clark Hospital. She was born on February 27, 1956 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the daughter of the late Paul and Sadie Heilman. Brenda's journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit and love for her family and friends.

As a dedicated factory worker at American Plastics, Brenda poured her heart into her work while making lasting impressions. Brenda was a vibrant soul who truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She had an immense passion for playing cards, gathering with her family, and especially loving on her beloved grandchildren. Her loyalty to the Indiana University Hoosiers was well-known among her friends and family, and she proudly cheered them on through every game. Brenda also had a special bond with her two furry companions, Sissy and Missy, whose antics brought her endless joy. Her family will forever cherish the memorable moments they shared, particularly her signature side-eye expression that never failed to elicit laughter and affection. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Cowan; son, Sammy Joe Cowan; two grandchildren, David Campbell and George Napier. She is survived by her loving sons, David Cowan (Janice) and Larry Cowan; her brother, Paul Heilman (Sharon); and her sisters; Roberta and Janice(Steve); ten grandchildren, Brittany (Jimmy), Katelyn, Tammy, Corey, Brady, Cassie, Brandi, Dillon, Krystal, Tate; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren with one on the way. Funeral service for Brenda will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spurgeon Cemetery in Austin, Indiana.
