Cathy Jean Baldwin, 65, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on November 24, 1956, in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Leroy and Bonna (Murphy) Burns. On August 2, 1980, she married her sweetheart, Francis Rick Baldwin, who survives. After their marriage Cathy and Rick settled in Scottsburg, Indiana. Cathy was a devoted wife, supporting Rick through Military deployments and many service roles within the church and community. Together they drove cross country to many destinations; some of their favorites being the nearly 13 sandy beaches they stuck their toes in and a more recent trip to Nashville, TN.
Cathy worked as a nursing assistant and nurse in training prior to receiving both her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana. She retired from Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana after serving the community as a nurse for thirty-seven years. Cathy built lifelong friendships through her career. She would be touched by the outpouring of love and comfort these friendships provided in her last days.
Cathy was a longtime member of the First Christian Church where she actively served in different roles throughout the years. She shared her gift for music through singing in choirs, playing her clarinet, and sharing special songs with Rick. Cathy loved Jesus and demonstrated her walk by Fully Relying On God (F.R.O.G.) Cathy also happened to collect frogs!
Cathy's spirit of adventure took her to many destinations both local and far away. Her most recent ventures included traveling the backroads of Indiana with her sister Julie. A third trip to Ireland was in the works. At least once a summer a family campout would often find her sitting on the dock by her aunt and uncle's pond where she delighted (instigated…) in her brother Steven's shenanigans!
She was preceded in death by her parents. In addition to her husband, Rick Baldwin, Cathy is survived by sister, Julie Burns of Scottsburg, Indiana; and brother, Steve (Devona) Burns of Scottsburg, Indiana. Cathy loved her extended family dearly. She played the role of Proud Aunt well! Her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews can vouch for that! She played an active role as cheerleader, comforter, and adventure buddy for many of them. It brings the family great comfort to know that fond memories will be shared by many.
