Charles Edward Barger, 81, of Deputy, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 18, 2026. He was born on May 10, 1945, in Saul, Perry County, Kentucky to Floyd Barger and Eller Wombles Barger.Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whoselife was marked by hard work, honesty, and dedication to his family and community. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Kent-Lentz, on June 8, 1996, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. He retired from Cummins after 30 years of service. Charles was also a successful entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses throughout his life, including Barger’s Sleep Shop, Barger’s Auto Sales, B&B Furniture, and numerous other ventures. He also worked as a realtor with Schuler Bauer Realty. Charles was deeply involved in his community and fraternal organizations. He was a Past Master of Scott Lodge #120 Free and Accepted Masons, Past President of Scott County Shrine Club, a member of the Murat Shrine, the Jennings Township Conservation Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star Scottsburg Chapter 107. Charles loved life on Hardy Lake and cherished the years spent living by the water. He enjoyed fishing, boating, working on vehicles, golf carts, and John Deere lawn tractors. He and Carolyn also shared a passion for remodeling and selling homes together and three square dancing clubs; Stone City Squares, Star Promenaders, and Bucks and Does. He was a man of his word — honest, dependable, and always willing to help others. Those who knew him will remember his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Virgil, Clide, Andrew, and Denver Barger; one sister, Pauline Barger Meeks; two children, Michail Joe and Michail Ray Barger; and one grandchild, Nikahlas Fischer. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Kent-Lentz Barger; brother George (Debbie) Barger; sister Lucille Barger Cleveland; children Charles W. “Shannon” Barger, Michelle (Trent) Coffelt, Missy (Bryan) Capps, Denver (Sarah) Barger, Paul (Linda) Lentz, and Amy (Dewayne) DeHart; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great- grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Charles leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and dedication that will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him. There will be a visitation held on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 10-1pm with service starting at 1pm at Collins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Spurgeon Cemetery in Austin, Indiana. The Masonic service will start at 12:30pm, and Eastern Star Chapter 107 prior to the Masonic service on Friday at Collins Funeral Home.
