Christine Annette Backus, 63, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on February 5, 1957 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the daughter of Carl E. Hall, Sr. and Verna Maxine (Robison) Hall. Annette graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1976 and then attended the old Humana Health Institute in Louisville, Kentucky to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She later earned her Registered Nursing credentials at Ivy Tech in Sellersburg, Indiana. Annette was married on October 12, 1990 to Robert L. "Bob" Backus. She was a registered nurse in the O.B. Labor and Delivery Department at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana, where she worked for the last 13 years. Annette had previously worked at many other area hospitals including, Scott Memorial, Clark Memorial, Schneck and King's Daughters' Hospital's. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana and early in her life she enjoyed working in and raising vegetable and flower gardens. Annette was also talented in many different crafts, including ceramics, crocheting and knitting and loved to bake birthday and wedding cakes. After having her children, she spent most of her free time caring for and loving her family and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. Annette was preceded in death by her father, Carl E. Hall, Sr. and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Williams. Survivors include her husband of nearly 30 years, Bob Backus, three sons, Richie Williams, Zachary and Logan Backus all of Scottsburg, Indiana; two daughters, Christina Marie Browning (Scott) of Little York, Indiana and Jessica Danielle Backus of Scottsburg, Indiana; her mother, Maxine Hall of Underwood, Indiana; a brother, Carl E. "Buck" Hall, Jr. (Kelli) of Underwood, Indiana; a sister, Donna Kopp (Gary) of Crestview, Florida; three grandchildren, Justin Browning, Alyssa and Hayden Williams and one great grandson, Liam Browning. Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the First Christian Church with Matt Craig officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm on Monday at Collins Funeral Home and after 10 am on Tuesday at the First Christian Church. Services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC's recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face coverings are encouraged.
