Obituary

Colman F. Smith, Jr., 89, of Austin, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 26, 1931 in Nickerson, Kansas, the son of the late Colman F. Smith, Sr. and Neva Mae (Durkee) Smith. Colman graduated from Austin High School in 1949 and served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was a tractor operator for Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation in Madison, Indiana, where he worked for 38 years retiring in 1993. Colman was a member of Zoah Christian Church and was an honorary member of Jennings Township Conservation Club. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Austin and George Smith and two sisters, Joyce Davis and Sadie Foreman. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Doris J. (McCrady) Smith; three sons, Ricky Glen Smith and Gary Wayne Smith both of Austin, Indiana and Jeffrey Dale Smith and wife Jamie of Louisville, Kentucky; two daughters, Debra Jean "Debbie" Keller of Hanover, Indiana and Anita Gail Hall and husband Bob of Scottsburg, Indiana; two brothers, Bob Smith of California City, California and Jim Smith of Riverside, California; a sister, Twila Chasak of California; sixteen grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be private and for immediate family only due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, CDC recommendations, State and Local government mandates and the family's wishes. Services may be viewed on Collins Funeral Home's Facebook page at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 26, 2020. A celebration of life will be held with friends and family to be announced at a later date. Interment will be in Zoah Cemetery. Contributions may be given in memory of Colman to the Zoah Cemetery Association c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
