Obituary

Dale Reece, 82, of Austin, Indiana passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on July 1, 1942 in Lexington, Indiana, to the late Ernest Reece and Anna Marie (McNeeley) Reece. Dale graduated from Lexington High School in 1960. On February 15, 1963, Dale married the love of his life, Gatha Gay Hicks, who preceded him in death on May 15, 2024. He dedicated much of his life to his work as a Maintenance Supervisor at Colgate Palmolive in Jeffersonville, Indiana. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dale was a Master Mason at the Austin Masonic Scott Lodge #120, the lodge being a second family. He also was the founder of the local Indiana Widows Sons Motorcycle Riders Association. After retirement, he generously imparted his knowledge to others, teaching hydraulics and pneumatics at IVY Tech. Dale was not only a devoted father but also a pillar of strength for his family. His family cherished his kindness, wisdom, and the laughter they shared together. In addition to his parent and late wife, Gay, Dale is preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Reece; and one sister, Martha Taflinger. Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Tammy (David) McClain of Lexington, Indiana; Beverly (Steve) Deaton of Scottsburg, Indiana; and Anita (Steve) Wilson of Scottsburg, Indiana; one brother, Claude Reece; four grandchildren, Emily (Nick) Oleck, Ashley (Damon) Johnson, Curt (Becca) Wilson, and Tracey Donahue; and three great grandchildren, Brielle, Braxtyn, and Ethan. Funeral Service for Dale Reece will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 11:00am at Austin Christian Church in Austin, Indiana. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana and on Wednesday an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana. The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude for the wonderful care given to Dale by everyone at Baptist Floyd Hospital and Julie with Hosparus Health. Memorial donations can be made in Dale's name to the Scott County Humane Society in c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
