David "Pappy" Deaton, 76, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on August 4, 1947 in Oneida, Kentucky, the son of the late Dale Deaton and Meada Mae (Barger) Deaton. After graduating from Scottsburg High School David joined the United States Air Force. He was a former employee of the old Jeffboat in Jeffersonville, Indiana. David also worked as a welder and instructor at Brown and Root in Biloxi, Mississippi. David was a member of the Scottsburg American Legion Post #234, the Scott County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6582, and the Loyal Order of Moose Sellersburg Lodge Post #1757. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and playing cards with his buddies. In addition to his parents David is preceded in death by two sisters, Sadie Bowling and Dorothy Bowling; two brothers, Randy Deaton and Buckie Deaton; son, Jonathan Deaton; and grandson, Brian Gary. Survivors include wife of fifty-seven years, Katherine of Scottsburg, Indiana; five daughters, Michelle (Rob) Gary of Marysville, Indiana, Billie (Michael) Beach of Heiskell, Tennessee, Angela (Dale) Deaton-Robbins of Scottsburg, Indiana, Sonya Ray of Scottsburg, Indiana, and Amy Booth of Scottsburg, Indiana; son, Joseph Deaton of Scottsburg, Indiana; two brothers, Marshall Deaton of Pekin, Indiana and Raymond (Linda) Deaton of Austin, Indiana; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; his trusty sidekick, Rufus "Ru-Ru"; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service 4:00 pm Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Pastor Tyler Griffin officiating. Visitation 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Wednesday prior to services.
