With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of a kind soul with a giant heart, DeLila Jane Gehring (formerly Podenski). A mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, companion and friend to many. A true collector of many things-especially chili peppers, a crafter, quilter, adventurer, traveler and nurse extraordinaire. Her unique, fun personality and kindness touched many over the years and she will be missed by all. DeLila Jane Gehring, 70, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2019 at her residence. She was born on April 14, 1949 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Oscar Emmanuel Gehring and Loretta Lillian (Bechtle) Gehring. DeLila graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Fargo, N.D. with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She was a retired nurse from Arizona State Hospital and had worked many places including St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, N.D., Stanford Medical Centre in Stanford, CA, Providence Hospital System in Seattle, WA, Lake End Recovery Centre, the King Country Jail as a nurse finder's intern and dependable staffing in Phoenix, Arizona. DeLila was a member of The Community Church of Joy in Glendale, Arizona, where she had been active in the Women's 3-D Group, Women's Retreat Bible Study Classes and served as the former Youth Fellowship President and Representative for the North Dakota Conference. In addition, she was a former member of the Student Nurses Association, Mountaineers YMCA, American Veterans Association and the American Legion in Bismarck, North Dakota. DeLila had also volunteered for several Breast Cancer Walks and other organizations raising money for AIDS and Alzheimer's Research. DeLila was preceded in death by her parents and longtime companion, Randy Helton who passed away on July 5, 2019. Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Sun Podenski-Jerabek and her husband Rick of Seattle, Washington; her son, Erik James Podenski and his wife Cara of Shoreline, Washington; three sisters, Carma Pearl Booth of Roseville, California, Marion Lillian Cobb of Denman Island, B.C. (Canada) and Sheryl June Zoller of Bismarck, North Dakota and two grandchildren, Margaret and Everest. Cremation Services were entrusted to Collins Funeral Home in Scottsbury, Indiana.
