Dennis L. Franklin, 76, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on June 3, 1947 in Scottsburg, Indiana, to the late David M. Franklin and Eva Lucille (Cathcart) Franklin. On August 3, 1970 he married Patricia D. (Cochran) Franklin, who preceded him in death. Raised in Little York, Indiana, Dennis's life was defined by family, service, and craftsmanship. Dennis proudly served in the US Army as a Combat Engineer during the Vietnam War, and was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement related to a landmine clearing operation. After returning home, Dennis married his sweetheart, Patricia Cochran, and started a family with the birth of their daughter, Carolyn. Dennis put his mechanical ingenuity to work, first at Hoosier Precast and Salem Trucks, then opening Franklin's Machine Shop in 1983. Dennis loved working with his hands. Metal or wood, he could design, build, and fix anything. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and talent with friends and family on their projects, always satisfied by a job well done. He also enjoyed working on and riding motorcycles, racing stock cars, participating in competitive archery, and building cedar chests. Dennis felt at home outdoors gardening, fishing, exploring, or sitting on the porch watching wildlife.

He was preceded in death by wife, Patricia; parents; and three brothers Jerry Franklin, Larry Franklin, and Terry Franklin. Survivors include daughter Carolyn (Jeffrey) Gannaway, and 1 granddaughter. Funeral Service 11:00 am Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Bruce Stephenson officiating. Visitation 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 10, 2023 and after 10 am Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment at Little York Cemetery in Little York, Indiana.
