Doris Anna Prewitt

Doris Anna (Foster) Prewitt, much loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed peacefully from this life with her family by her side on Friday, September 25, 2026.

Doris was born on June 6, 1937, to Everett C. and Nellie E. (Metz) Foster at their home near Seymour, Indiana, in the same house where her father and grandfather were born. She graduated from Crothersville High School in 1955 and married Bill Prewitt in 1957, at the Uniontown Baptist Church.

Doris and Bill raised their four children in Scottsburg where Doris was a dedicated homemaker and stay-at-home mom. She had a remarkable gift for loving and serving others that spanned multiple generations. Doris loved and supported her children, was a second mother to her nieces and nephews, and was a devoted Nanny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family she created and nurtured loves her dearly.

Doris served the community as a seamstress for years and made many of her daughters' clothes, prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and one wedding dress. She was proud to have made the purple and gold outfit Gene Rogers wore while cheering for Scottsburg High School basketball, which is now in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. In her spare time, she enjoyed needlework and quilting.

She was active in her church and community. She became a member of Vienna Baptist Church in 1965 and served in multiple roles, including Sunday School teacher, American Baptist Women Coffee Creek officer, church historian, piano player, and church/funeral dinner organizer. Doris often sang in church and growing up, sang on the radio with her sister Helen. In her community, she served as a former president of the Scott County Homemakers Association, was a member of the V&E Homemakers Club, served as a poll inspector for the Scott County Election Board for many years, and was the Lucky Charms 4-H leader. She was inducted into the Scott County 4-H Hall of Fame in 2010. She very much enjoyed the Lexington Ladies Book Club and Lexington Ladies Bible Study Group. Doris also loved working as an activities director at the old Englishton Park for some years after her children were grown.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Ed Foster (brother), and Helen Kinney (sister). She is survived by her son Dan Prewitt; daughters Connie (Chuck) Rose, Tracy (Glen) Wells, and Shelby (Roger) Boley; granddaughters Christa (Evan) West, Laura (Tristan) Justice, and Carmen Boley; great-grandchildren Allison, Emily, and Caroline Justice, and Mason, Max, and Madelyn West; her sisters-in-law, Judy Samples and Jan Foster VonDielingen, several nieces and nephews, and many honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Our family invites you to visit with us at Vienna Baptist Church, 11 West Leota Rd, Scottsburg, Indiana on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 from 10-1pm with the funeral service starting at 1pm with burial to follow at Estil Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Doris's name may be made to Vienna Baptist Church, where she attended for many years, or Southern Care Hospice who provided her with excellent care and comfort. Envelopes will be available at the church.
