Obituary

Dorothy Mae "Dotty" Avery, 83, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. She was born on August 13, 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Donald Lee Cheatham and Elizabeth Louise (Dillander) Cheatham-Avery. Dotty was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include two daughters, LaWanda Chase (Scott) of Louisville, Kentucky and Karen M. Davenport of Jacksonville, Florida; a son, Mark Avery of Scottsburg, Indiana; five sisters, Mary Kathryn "Kaye" Carr (Roger) of Scottsburg, Indiana, Margaret Collins (Boyd) of Little York, Indiana, Donna Garriott (Dewayne) of Scottsburg, Indiana, Linda Humphrey (Jimmy) and Carolyn Edds (Joe) all of Louisville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Roger Carr officiating. Funeral services may also be viewed on Collins Funeral Home's Facebook page at 11:00 am on Wednesday. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday and after 10 am on Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home. Visitation and services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC's recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face masks will be required due to the governor's executive mandate. Interment will be in Mt.
