Douglas Jewell Calhoun, 83 of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born March 24, 1942, in Newport, Kentucky to James Jackson and Nancy Hazel (Witt) Calhoun. He grew up in Henryville and after high school, he joined the US Army, serving three terms in Viet Nam. He married Mary R. Brown March 6, 1965, and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2023. After his military service, he worked as a Corrections Officer and construction before retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor. In his younger years, he and his uncle Ronnie had a garage in Scottsburg. He enjoyed building bird houses and bird feeders, as well hunting and fishing when he was younger. Doug is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his siblings, Billy Calhoun, Gene Calhoun, Ronnie Calhoun and Sue Napier. Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Chris Calhoun of North Vernon, Indiana, Nancy Calhoun of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Douglas Scott Calhoun of London, Kentucky and David (Regina) Calhoun of North Vernon, his sister, Sidney Napier of Milton, Kentucky and grandchildren, Gunner Calhoun of New Albany, Indiana, Justin Calhoun and Brian Calhoun, both of Jeffersonville, Jared Calhoun of Blocher, Indiana, Christina Calhoun of Dupont, Indiana, Douglas Clay Calhoun of London, Kentucky and Joshua Calhoun of Texas and Kacie (Ethan) Bowman of Austin and three Great-grandchildren. Friends may visit with Doug's family from 10:00 until service time at 12:00 pm, Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Pastor Leon Armstrong will officiate the service. Concluding services with military honors will follow at Lexington Cemetery.
