Obituary

E. Larry Jones, 71, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 at The Waters of Scottsburg. He was born on May 3, 1949 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late Granville Edgar Jones and Annagene (Rose) Jones. Larry graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1969. He was a retired Staff Sergeant from the Indiana Army National Guard, where he served eight years. Prior to being in the Indiana National Guard, Larry served 15 years in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. He also had worked for the old Penn Station Railroad for 12 years. Larry was a member of the Tampico Baptist Church, a Lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 234 and Scott County VFW Post # 6582, where he also had served as a House Committee. He also volunteered and served on the Crothersville V.F.W. and the American Legion Honor Guard for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Marie Cravens; a son, Douglas Ryan Jones; two brothers, Kenneth M. and Gene Jones; a granddaughter, Shaylla Michelle Jones and a step granddaughter, Simone Smith. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Sue (Long) Jones; a stepson, Brian Scott (Teresa) Killey of Butlerville, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Melissa DeAnn (Tony) Epley of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; a sister, Irma F, McCutcheon of Henryville, Indiana; one granddaughter, Makenzie Jones; 12 step grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services with military honors were held on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Leota, Indiana with Harold Morrow officiating.
