Obituary

Emma L. Green-Despain, 88, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was born on April 1, 1932 in McHenry, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Preston G. Daugherty and Dade (Smith) Daugherty. Emma was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Leota, Indiana . She was married to Arlie Green, who died on August 6, 1990 and later was remarried to James E. DeSpain, who passed away on June 9, 1996. Emma worked at of the old I.C.I. Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, Indiana and was owner and operator of the old Care Bear Child Care in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was a wonderful foster mother for multiple children since 1975 and cared for many elderly people in her home over the years. Emma was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Barnes; grandson, Matt Binkley; great granddaughter, Storie OakLynn Binkley; three sisters, Edna Fulkerson, Effie Hook and Delcie Gamble; four brothers, Wesley, Archie, Carl, and Roy Daugherty and a son in law, Daniel "Danny" Barnes. Survivors include three sons, Larry Green (Tonya "Toni") of Lexington, Indiana; Arlie" Mike" Green (Karen) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Doyle R. Green of Bedford, Indiana; two daughters, Linda Binkley (Jerry) of Lexington, Indiana and Lisa Riley (Jim) of Austin, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Pastor Mike Biggs officiating. Visitation: 10 am to 1 pm on Thursday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment will be in New Providence Cemetery in Austin, Indiana. Visitation and services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC's recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face masks will be required due to the governor's executive order.
