Ernest J. Phillipy, Jr., 88, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on February 28, 1935, in Lexington, Indiana, the son of the late Ernest J. Phillipy Sr. and Mable (Close) Moore. Ernest was a member of the Indiana Sheriff's Association and enjoyed working with John McDonald doing auctions. He was married to Pauline A. (Carver) Phillipy on October 4, 1952, who passed away on July 21, 1999. In addition to his parents and wife, Ernest is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Phillipy, Lucil Amos, and son in law, David Smith. Survivors include three daughters, Rita Phipps of New Albany, Indiana, Mary Jo Smith of New Albany, Indiana, and Cindy (Lynn) Deckard of Greenville, Indiana; one son, Jimmy (Samantha) Phillipy of Sellersburg, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Nikki, Gretchen, Valerie, Marcie, Chad, Jimmy, Amanda, Bryan. Ashley, Bailey; fourteen great grandchildren, Conner, Holden, Kaylee, Dalton, Tyler, Joslyn, Xander, Jayden, Ashlynn, Everlynn, Kessa, Bennett, Riley, and Phillip Jr.; and one great great granddaughter, Estrella. Funeral Service 1:00 pm Friday, January 5, 2024, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Matthew Craig officiating.
