Evelyn Darin, 96, of Austin, Indiana, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 in Greensboro, North Carolina surrounded by her family. She was delivered at home by Bertie Hunley in Austin, Indiana, the daughter of the late Alfred and Bertha (Nicholas) Cathcart. Evelyn graduated from Shields High School in Seymour, Indiana in the Class of 1943 and also attended Ivy Tech in Madison, Indiana. She was a retired photo journalist for the old Scott County Journal in Scottsburg, Indiana, where she also held the positions of Society Editor for the Austin News Section and Sports Editor. While working at the newspaper, she was recognized with many photography awards by the Indianapolis Star. In addition, Evelyn had worked as an enumerator for the U.S. Census Bureau. She was a member of the Zoah Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana and also attended the Austin Christian Church. Evelyn was a former member of the Ida Rebekah Lodge and the Town of Austin Zoning Board. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, raising her vegetable and flower gardens and was still operating a rototiller in her 60's. Evelyn loved cats, coffee, bacon, and people, getting her energy from each. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Darin; a grandson, Dustin Tanner Sharron; two brothers, Alfred Lee and Paul Edward Cathcart; a sister, Pauline Helton; her stepmother, Florence Cathcart and an infant stepsister. Survivors include four daughters, Judith Beck of Nashville, Indiana, Beth Meeks of Scottsburg, Indiana, Martha Sharron of Greensboro, North Carolina and Carol Darin, also her caregiver of Austin, Indiana; six grandchildren, Brendan Davis, Greg Davis (Holly), Christy Bixler (Kelly), Jamie Meeks-Loy (Daniel), Brea Estep (Tim) and Christian Sharron; three great grandchildren, Susanne, Joshua and Lexi and five great great grandchildren, Blair, Jason, Case, Raelynn and Boone. Interment will be in Zoah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to either St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Zoah Church Building Fund c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
