IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fred R.
Caudill, Jr.
October 13, 1960 – April 3, 2025
Fred R. Caudill, Jr. was born on October 13, 1960, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, to the late Willie Sue Broadus and Fred R. Caudill, Sr. He passed away of natural causes on April 3, 2025, in his home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
After graduating from Scottsburg High School in 1979, Fred proudly served in the United States Air Force for eight years. His favorite tour of duty was spent on the island of Sardinia, Italy-a place he fondly remembered for the rest of his life. Following his honorable discharge, Fred worked with his hands throughout the years, first as a mechanic and in maintenance, later finishing his career as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.
Fred took pride in hard work and living a simple life, but his greatest joy was spending time with his children and bragging about them. He was the proud father of "Bub" (Connor Caudill, spouse Ryan DeFranco), "Rosebud" (Adrianna Rose Caudill), and beloved grandfather to "Luther" (Harold Lucas).
Known for his humor, stubborn streak, and unfiltered opinions, Fred lived life entirely on his own terms. He loved being outdoors, traveling, hunting, boating, mowing, playing softball and volleyball, bowling, line dancing, playing cards, collecting toys, and buying lottery tickets. But nothing meant more to him than time spent with his best friend, Rosebud, and caring for his grandson, Harold.
Fred was the eldest-and, by most accounts, the meanest and most stubborn-of seven siblings. He is survived by Katrina, Jeff, Kelly, Klarinda, and Joshua, and is preceded in death by his twin sisters, Kenya and Kathy. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, as well as a special bond with Harold and Rachel Rutherford.
In true Fred fashion, the family requests that you wear camouflage or your favorite rock band T-shirt to honor him.
Rather than offering condolences, Fred's children ask that you share your favorite memory of him-or ask them to share theirs. Please, no flowers.
Friends may visit with Fred's family on Thursday, April 10th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again one hour prior to the service on Friday, April 11th, at 11:00 a.m., all at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Services will be officiated by Pastor Aaron Flucke. Military honors will follow at Scottsburg Cemetery. Please share memories and condolences at www.collinsfuneralhome.net.
