Obituary

Frederick M. Phillips, 93, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at his residence. He was born on August 15, 1926 in Columbus, Indiana, the son of the late Carmel Martin Phillips and Edith Laurene (Vanest) Phillips-Giles. Fred was married on Feb. 16, 1957 to Shirley Ellen (Emry) Phillips and they spent 55 years together until she passed away on November 13, 2012. He was a retired employee of Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana and was a member of the Coffee Creek Christian Church Paris Crossing, Indiana. Fred was formerly an Elder and Deacon at the old South Bethany Christian Church in Columbus where he attended for many years. He served his country in WW II as a Seaman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the St. Johns Lodge # 20 F & AM in Columbus, Indiana. Fred loved all animals, but especially his dogs and horses and also liked to sketch and has done several unique drawings over the years. Fred was a collector who enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions and after retirement he and his wife opened a second hand antique and collectibles shop in Deputy, Indiana. In addition to his wife and parents, Fred was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Arleen Palmer; a granddaughter, Raquel Rae Ervin; three brothers, Wayne, Carl and Gene and a sister, Evelyn. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Diane Phillips-Wuest of Lexington, Kentucky and Belinda Gregory (Lymon) of Edinburgh, Indiana; a brother, Joseph "Joe" Phillips of Columbus, Indiana; four grandchildren including the granddaughter he raised as a daughter, Amber Pearson (Alvin) of Lexington, Indiana, Julie Klamm (Rob) of Coulterville, Illinois, Michelle Gordon (Scott) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Corey Gregory of Edinburgh, Indiana; seven great grandchildren, Caleb Hartwell (Josie Anderson), Shaina Ford (Steve), Blaiden Lloyd, Daimen Lloyd (Brittney), Ethain Lloyd (Tori), Sophie Gordon and April Ervin and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 2:30 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Paula Madden officiating. Visitation: 12 to 2:30 pm on Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation and services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC's recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face coverings are strongly encouraged. Interment will be in Lexington Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to: Alzheimer's Research Foundation c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
