Gastell McDonald, 78, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on April 7, 1941 in Butler County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Harold Threlkel and Delphia (Raymer) Leitner. Gastell graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1959. On March 23, 1979, she married John W. McDonald, who preceded her in death on August 19, 2009. Gastell was a retired co-owner and Real Estate Broker for the old McDonald Auction & Real Estate Company in Scottsburg, Indiana, where she worked with her husband John for over 30 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Scott County Museum, where she enjoyed participating in the quilting club. In addition to her husband and parents, Gastell was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Tomes and a brother, Thomas Lee Threlkel. Survivors include her son, Jason Smith and wife Trish of Scottsburg, Indiana; two daughters, Tina Smith of Panama City, Florida and Holli Givens and husband Billy of Franklin, Tennessee; two brothers, Rick Threlkel of Memphis, Indiana and Larry Threlkel of Salem, Indiana; a sister, Marlene Kirkpatrick of Blocher, Indiana; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several stepchildren and step grandchildren. Private graveside services on Thursday, April 9, 2020 in Lexington Cemetery will be for immediate family only due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, CDC recommendations, State and Local government mandates and the families wishes. A celebration of life will be held with friends and family at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Scott County Museum c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
