Gatha Gay Reece, 80, of Austin, Indiana passed away on May 15, 2024, at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on October 16, 1943, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, to the late John and Ellen (Burchett) Hicks. Gay married the love of her life on February 15, 1963, Dale Reece, who survives. Throughout her career in long-term care, Gay served as a Qualified Medical Assistant at the old Scott Villa in Scottsburg, Indiana, diligently caring for those in need. Her commitment to others and her nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Gay, a compassionate and dedicated woman, found joy in tending to her flower beds and sharing her affection with her beloved dog, Rusty. She is preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Dale; three daughters, Tammy (David) McClain of Lexington, Indiana, Anita (Steve) Wilson of Scottsburg, Indiana, and Beverly (Steve Deaton) West of Scottsburg, Indiana; four grandchildren, Emily (Nick) Oleck, Ashley Duvall, Curt Wilson, and Tracey Donahue; and three great grandchildren, Brielle, Braxtyn, and Ethan. Gay's commitment to her family and her unwavering love will forever be remembered. The funeral service to honor Gay's life will be held at Collins Funeral Home on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 1:00 pm, prior to the funeral, viewing will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Internment will follow services at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana. Gay's family has requested memorial donations to the Humane Society of Scott County Indiana c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
