Obituary

George Estes, 88, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was born on June 8, 1932 in Harlan, Kentucky, the son of the late Ellsworth and Lula N. Estes. George was a retired truck driver for Guthrie Lumber in Detroit, Michigan and attended the New Hope Church of God near Austin, Indiana. He was presented with the Purple Heart Medal for his bravery and service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Estes; a daughter, Patty Conzelman; two brothers, Allen and Bill Estes and his twin sister, Georgie Ramp. Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Gladys (Helton) Estes; two sons, George Michael Estes and Joe (Aileen) Estes all of Detroit, Michigan; two stepsons, Michael (Debbie) Huckleberry of Seymour, Indiana and Mark (Shannon) Huckleberry of Henryville, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Lisa Johnson of Scottsburg, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Funeral services will be private and for immediate family members only. Services may be viewed on Collins Funeral Home's Facebook page at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2020. Visitation: 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday at Collins Funeral Home and will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed.
