Geraldine Ruth Barnes

Geraldine Ruth Barnes, 99, of Scottsburg, Indiana a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on April 24, 1927, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Charles Bearl Briner and Pearl C. (Kurtz) Casey. Geri lived a rich and full life, instilling love and kindness in all who knew her. On May 23, 1954 she married the love of her life, Billie B Barnes, and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2010. She graduated from Crothersville High School and later spent years working at the local shoe factory and later at the old Coonies deli in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was known for her warmth and dedication, not only in her work but also in her community. A proud member of the Eastern Stars for over 50 years and a member of the First Christian Church of Scottsburg. Geri had a passion for travel, having explored all 50 states, which brought her immense joy and cherished memories. In addition to her parents and husband, Billie, Geraldine was preceded in death by her siblings: Charles Kurtz "CK" Briner, Geneva Grinstead, Charlotte Mae Miller, Jean H. Hoevener, Robert D. Briner, Betty Gubette, and Wilma Philpot; and granddaughter, Jessica Barnes. Geraldine is survived by one daughter, Teresa (James) Procelli of Carmel, Indiana; one son, Myron (Carolyn) Barnes of Scottsburg, Indiana; one brother, Ronald (Dorothy) Briner of Columbus, Indiana, one granddaughter, Katy (Robert) Burke; great grandchildren, Daniel, Alyssa, Kaytlynn, and Abram; and one great great grandchild Wrenlyn. Funeral service for Geraldine Barnes will be on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00am at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, and prior to the service on Saturday starting at 10:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Barnes Community Cemetery in Nabb, Indiana. Memorial Contributions may be given to Barnes Community Cemetery in c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
