Hershel Herman Simpson, Jr., 65, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was born on December 13, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of the late Hershel Herman Simpson Sr. and Ruth Mary (Reynolds) Simpson. After graduating from Scottsburg High School in 1976, Hershel went on to serve in the Armed Forces in the U.S. Army. On April 13, 1997, he married Rebecca "Becky" (Satterly) Simpson, who survives. He was a retired truck driver from Majesty Express in Scottsburg, Indiana. Hershel also formerly worked for Dane's Electric, the old Cravens Tire Mart and Bagshaw Trucking Company. He was a member of the Elevation Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, repairing baseball gloves, and watching old movies. His favorite being John Wayne Westerns. Hershel was also an incredibly involved dad and papaw. He was a past volunteer coach for the Scottsburg little league and a booster for the Scottsburg High School wrestling team. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Patricia (Trish) Ann Richey; brother, David Simpson; and three sisters, Brenda, Carrie, and Alice Simpson. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca "Becky" (Satterly) Simpson; son, Bill (Ashleigh) Simpson of Scottsburg, Indiana; stepson, James M. (Lauren) Richey of Scottsburg, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Lilly, Landon, Leksie, Kyle, Bryton, Braelyn and Hailey; one great grandchild, Gatlin Paul. Funeral Service 10:00 am Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Elevation Church in Scottsburg, Indiana with Pastor Gary Satterly officiating. Visitation 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, September 8, 2023, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana and after 9:00 am Saturday prior to services at Elevation Church.
