Imogene Hughes

Imogene Hughes, 91, of Lexington, Indiana passed away on August 3, 2026, at home with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 28, 1935 in Hyden, Kentucky, to the late Henry Couch and Daily (Bowling) Couch. On April 6, 1968 Imogene married the love of her life, Robert, and he survives. Imogene dedicated a significant part of her life to her family, which was always her first priority. Imogene worked at the ICI America old armory factory, where she made lasting contributions to her workplace. She was deeply involved in the local chemical workers' union, serving in various positions and advocating tirelessly for the rights of her fellow workers. Her commitment extended further as she served as a board member for the L & N Federal Credit Union, helping others achieve financial stability and security. In addition to her professional life, Imogene was known for her vibrant spirit and her passion for games. An avid bingo player and an enthusiastic 5-card poker participant, she brought joy and laughter to many gatherings, always ready to share a fun story or a friendly smile. Imogene is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Harvey Asher; daughter in law, Carla Asher; two brothers, Pearl Couch and Tim Couch; and one sister, Helen Gibson. In addition to her husband of fifty-eight years, Robert, Imogene is survived by one daughter, Tracy (Rick) Miskell; four sons, Paul (Peggy) Asher, John Asher, Philip (Rosie) Asher, and Robert (JoAnna) Hughes, II; fifteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. The memorial service for Imogene Hughes will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 1:00pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be prior to the service on Friday from at 11:00am to 1:00pm at Collins Funeral Home. Cremation was entrusted to Collins Funeral Home with a private burial at Scaffold Lick Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana to be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in Imogene's name to Scaffold Lick Cemetery in c/o Collins Funeral Home.
