Jack Pitts, 85, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 25, 1936 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late William and Mable (Vail) Pitts. After graduating from Scottsburg High School, Jack attended Indiana University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business. He was the owner and operator of Vails Lumber in Scottsburg, Indiana for over 60 years, celebrating their 101st anniversary of being in business this year. On May 6, 1954, Jack married Carole S. (Pardue) Pitts, who preceded him in death on August 28, 2019. Jack was a well known businessman and very involved in his community. He had served as an Executive President of Kiwanis, was a volunteer for the Scottsburg Fire Department and a member of the Scottsburg First Christian Church. Jack was a lifelong and diehard Indiana University fan, loved to golf and was active in the Republican Party. Survivors include three daughters, Valerie Houston (Bob) and Cheryl Walton both of Scottsburg, Indiana and Carla McGlaughlin of Louisville, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Taylor Houston (Meg), Parker Walton (Grace), Bailey Walton Lauters (Logan) and Hudson Walton (Megan) and one great grandson, Wells Houston. Funeral Service: 7:00 pm on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with David Colbert officiating. Visitation 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday at Collins Funeral Home. Cremation is requested following his services with burial at a later date at Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
