James "Jimmy" Coomes, 74 of Lexington, Indiana passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at his residence. He was born on May 28, 1948 in Bardstown, Kentucky to the late Lawrence Leo Coomes and Mary Louise (Hahn) Coomes. Jimmy was the owner/operator of Coomes Backhoe Service in Lexington, Indiana and also retired from the American Can Company. He was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church, Moose Lodge #2324, American Legion #234, and the Knights of Columbus. Jimmy loved the land he worked with and most of all loved being with his family. Anyone that knew Jim, knew he loved to joke around and had an ornery sense of humor. He married Myra (Dilger) Coomes, on April 30, 2005. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorcas Coomes; his parents; two brothers, Jerry Coomes and Freddie Coomes; and two brother in laws, Bobby Nichols and Ed Massey. He is survived by his wife, Myra (Dilger) Coomes; one daughter, Dawn (Joshua) Mays of Scottsburg, Indiana; two sons, Jeff (Sarah Gibson) Coomes of Lexington, Indiana and Jamie (Jana) Coomes of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Norma Massey, Judy Nichols, and Brenda (Bobby) Bright; five grandchildren, Jesse Mays, Jaylah Mays, Hayden Coomes, Jaxon Konkler, Tristan Konkler, and his dog Freckles. Visitation will be held on Friday May 26, 2023 from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Scottsburg, Indiana and burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana.
