James "Jim" Smith, 85, of Riverside, California passed away on July 5, 2024, in Riverside, California. He was born on March 5, 1939, in Brandon, Colorado, to the late Colman Smith, Sr. and Neva Mae (Durkee) Smith. Jim's academic achievements included graduating from The University of California, Riverside, where he obtained a PHD in Sociology and an MBA in Business, later dedicating over twenty years to the institution. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by three brothers, Austin Smith, Colman Smith and George Smith; and three sisters, Joyce Davis, Sadie Foreman, and Twila Chasak. Jim is survived by one brother, Bob Smith of California City, California; numerous nieces and nephews; and a good friend Julie Hull. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 2:00pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be prior to the service on Sunday at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
