James "Jim" L.
Stolz
February 24, 1943 – October 28, 2022
On October 28, 2022, James L. Stolz passed away at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was 79 at the time. Long term illness from cancers caused his death. preceding him in death was his father and mother, Charles "Chuck" and Eleanor (Talbert) Stolz. Also, his brother, Dr. Thomas J. Stolz. He has a surviving sister, Judith A. (Stolz) Meyer. Jim's wife of over forty-three years, Judith A. (Loy) Stolz, of Lexington, Indiana survives. He also has his two daughters, Teri (Stolz) Smith of Greenwood, Indiana and Sheila (Stolz) Moore (Philip) of Greenwood, Indiana. Between the two daughters there are five grandchildren and three step grandchildren. Great grandchildren total six with two step-great grandchildren. Jim grew up on a dairy farm and had a hard working, faith-based family in Bryant, Indiana. He and his dad enjoyed time flying a Cessna around the farm and enjoyed many hours sharing time in the air. His mother took care of his grandparents in their home, and they also entertained many cousins. In early years his family attended the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant, Indiana. His current membership is at New Bethel Church in Lexington, Indiana. A strong belief system and faith in God has carried him through the years. Love of America and our freedoms were very important to him. His education consisted of going to one room schoolhouse in New Corydon, Indiana through 8th grade. Then it was Bryant High School in Bryant, Indiana. After that he attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and after Purdue University. A master's in science along with Teaching Certificate was attained and put to use by being a science teacher at Morristown Jr. Sr. High School in Morristown, Indiana for thirty-three years. He used methods of demos and hands on experiences to enhance the student's learning experiences. While attending college he took a summer job at Desoto Wildlife Refuge in Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1969. There he assisted in the recovery of an 1865 sunken steamboat called the Bertrand. During his years at Morristown Jr. Sr. High School, he had a boy's rocket club; coached boy's and girl's tennis teams; developed an outdoor lab and program, started a water quality class, and coached the debate team. After retirement and moving to Southern Indiana he worked Clifty Falls State Park nine years as a Gate Attendant/Visitor Educator. He also worked at New Life International at their camp setting and with the water quality outreach. He enjoyed extra time as a private pilot (which spans sixty-four years), RC hobbies, hiking, archery, going to Creation Museum, photography, and boating. He was kept busy keeping the home place projects completed. he was an avid reader and could complete a book a week. It always thrilled him to entertain family and friends when they would visit. He enjoyed showing the young ones whatever critters were in the woods. Jim will be missed greatly by those who loved him and other live he touched. Jim during his life met, lived with, and was fond of many families besides family and in-laws over that time. He was definitely "One of the good guys"!
Memorial service will be at 1:00 pm on November 3, 2022 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on November 3, 2022. Private family interment will be held at a future date at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Jay County, Indiana by Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland, Indiana.
