Obituary

James R. "Jim" Shepherd, Sr., 66, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at his residence. He was born on February 9, 1954 in Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of the late Nero Shepherd, Sr. and Ella Fair (Hopkins) Shepherd. Jim was a retired brick layer for the Indiana Refractory in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union and always enjoyed operating heavy equipment. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and nature watching. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman "Bud", Roy "Forst" and Nero, Jr. "June" and three sisters, Geraldine, Oma and Margaret. Survivors include three daughters, Kimberly M. Baze (Donald) of Granger, Indiana, Sherry J. Mendenhall (Thad) of Freemont, Indiana and Jamie A. Lanning (Jason) of Angola, Indiana; a son; James R. "Mac" Shepherd, Jr. (Madelyn James) of Pleasant Lake, Indiana; two brothers, Alfred "Yogi" Shepherd (Nancy) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Robert "Bob" Shepherd of Lexington, Indiana; two sisters, Tina Rollins and Elaine Stapleton both of West Portsmouth, Ohio and seven grandchildren, Cheyene Guthrie (T.J.), Tyler Meyer, Dylan Peppler, Hunter and Logan Church, Alivea Shepherd and Hope Lanning. Funeral services will be private and for immediate family only due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, CDC recommendations, State and Local government mandates and the families wishes. Interment will be in Lexington Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Lexington Cemetery Association c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
