Mrs. Joan (Conway) Stidham-Dunn, 82, of Scottsburg, Indiana, entered into eternal life on January 14, 2021 after fighting a courageous and hard-fought battle against cancer. In her last days, she was well-cared for at Norton's Hosparus Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Joan was born November 16, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to her biological parents the late, Arthur and Julia Conway. She counted it a blessing being able to know all of her biological siblings throughout adult life. When she was 2 years of age, the late Clifford and Beulah (Dazell) Anderson took Joan in to raise as their own, along with their three children. Joan's siblings were Cliff (Coty) Anderson, Arlene (Carm) Gagliano and Wayne Anderson who all live in Chicago. Joan was a 1956 graduate of Austin High School in Chicago, Illinois. On November 24, 1956 she married Harold D. Stidham, Sr. becoming widowed on May 19, 1980. They raised three children together, Debbie, Dean, and Doug. Throughout those years, Joan was a homemaker, worked in retail, was a waitress and worked several years for Stidham's Auto Sales as a bookkeeper. She also was her small Blocher Community's Avon lady. With her warm demeanor, no doubt her friends and customers looked forward to Joan's visits. Her striking beauty opened the door to professional modeling opportunities in Chicago and Louisville. On January 28, 1984, she married Bill J. Dunn who survives. Joan's passions in life were traveling, dancing, shopping, anything glitz and glam, and her Irish Ancestral Lineage, herself being purely Irish. She cherished the friendship she had with "five" of her K-12 classmates. They determined early on to meet for their annual "girl trip" and meet they did, for many years to follow. Their final excursion began in July of 2012. Joan was unique, had a youthful spirit and was tough yet gentle. Through that gentleness she "loved-well" her family. She embraced their times spent together. As a wife, mother, mother-in-law, G-ma to her grandchildren, G.G. and Sugar to her great-grands and "The General" to all of us. She was always a part of every important event in each of her family's lives. It kept her busy... "a good busy". When reflecting she would share with you that being given away as a child did leave an emptiness in her heart. She would also share that the Lord does restore. He filled the emptiness with the family HE created through her and through them she was "well-loved". Joan's legacy will live on through the family she leaves behind including her children, Debbie (Namon) Howard of Crothersville, Indiana, Doug (Tammy) Stidham of Scottsburg, Indiana, and Debbie Stidham (widow of Dean Stidham) of Madison, Indiana; her grandchildren, Case (Amanda) Howard, C.J. (Ashley) Stidham, Courtneè (Steven) Scifres, Sharnal (A.J.) Humes, Skylar Dean Stidham and her Great-grands, Zoe, Drey, Sadie, Jent, Solomon, Ava, Walker, and Eden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dean Stidham, Sr.; her son, Harold (Dean) Stidham, Jr. Joan is also survived by lifelong best friends, Sandy Brown, Lucy Dobrinkski, Victoria (Vicki) Dobrinkski, and Barbara Ann Hill and was preceded in death by Rosejeanne (Jeanne) Felcan in July 2012. Private family services were held at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana, with a celebration of life to be planned for Spring.
