Lanny Earl Toomer, 83, of Lowell, Indiana passed away on Monday, May 9,2023 in Cedar Creek of Lowell, Indiana. He resided at Two Hearts for Seniors in Lowell, Indiana. He was born on February 20, 1940 in Wyandotte, Michigan. He was the son of the late George Kenneth Toomer and Rena Mae Hooper (Toomer). He was a forklift driver at American National Can in Austin, Indiana and later in Hammond, Indiana. Lanny loved his country and had a lifelong career with the military. He joined the Air Forces in 1962-65, Army Reserves in Scottsburg, Indiana, and finally joined the National Guard in Remington, Indiana. He was always up for a good conversation. Lanny's hobbies were playing cards and bingo. He also loved spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by late spouse, Oda Collins Toomer; grandson, Colton Zabek; brother, Leland Toomer and sister, Leatha Waeghe. Survivors include son, Mark (Jennifer) Toomer; daughter, Holli (Brian) Zabek; grandsons, Zachary Zabek, Jerry Toomer, Terry (Genna) Brooke; granddaughter, Breann Zabek and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation: 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Friday at Collins Funeral Home.
