Larry James Peacock

Larry James Peacock, 76, of Deputy, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at Norton Downtown Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on July 26, 1949, in Scottsburg, Indiana, Larry was the son of the late James Marion "Jim" Peacock and Marjorie (Cozart) Peacock. A 1967 graduate of Austin High School, Larry married the love of his life, Kathy Chasteen, on February 3, 1968. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love, sharing more than 58 years of marriage.

Larry was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend. His family was the greatest blessing of his life, and he faithfully led by example with humility, kindness, and integrity. He never wavered from his Christian morals and convictions, choosing each day to live according to his faith. Larry's life was a true testimony to God's light and grace. Through his gentle spirit and servant's heart, he reflected Christ's love to everyone he met, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.

After graduating high school, Larry began a distinguished 31-year career with Cummins Engine Company. Though he worked many years in industry, his heart always remained on the farm. A lifelong farmer, he spent countless hours caring for the land he loved, planting corn and soybeans and finding joy in the simple rewards of a hard day's work. Larry embodied dedication, perseverance, and a deep appreciation for God's creation throughout his life.

His commitment to serving others extended far beyond his family and farm. Larry was a member of the Deputy Masonic Lodge and dedicated many years of service to the Farm Service Agency Board. He also served on the Scott County ABC Board, demonstrating his commitment to his community and those around him. A lifelong member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Austin, Indiana, Larry remained steadfast in his faith and was an active part of the church family he loved. He was also proud to have served his country in the Army Reserves.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Erich James Peacock; and his great-nephew, Jayce Ray Stallings.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Peacock; his three children, Sherry (Troy) Leep, Brent (Amie) Peacock, and Laura (Brent) Peacock; his sister, Joyce (Dennis) Marr; his brothers, Robert (Sandy) Peacock and Steve (Carrie) Peacock; his ten grandchildren, Dustin (Brooklyn) Hall, Amber (Otto) Lakins, Lilly (Dustin) Humphrey, Corbin (Emma) Leep, Derek Leep, Colton Peacock, Braden Peacock (Haylee), Easton Peacock, Abigail (Conrad) Beyl, and Luke (Taylor) Hutchinson; his seven great-grandchildren, Hayden, Addison, Grace, Maylah, Eleanor, Samuel, and Evelynn; along with several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
