LaVerne M. (Sebastian) Basham, 77, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on July 5, 1945, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Sam Sebastian and Mary (Strinko) Diaz. LaVerne's mother, Mary, grew up in a children's orphanage after losing both parents. Mary raised eight children, LaVerne being the oldest and only daughter. LaVerne graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1963. On October 29, 1995, she married Michael Casado, who survives. She retired from INAAP in Charlestown, Indiana, where she met the love of her life, Mike. LaVerne had always been a hard worker starting in high school working at the old Park N Eat and Cliff's Drive In. She had many jobs through the years, and always particularly liked working for the Scott County district 2. LaVerne loved to host family gatherings in their home, especially for her nieces. She would take them to Derby Dinner Playhouse down in Clarksville, Indiana and have girl's nights with them. LaVerne enjoyed cooking, dancing, and making Christmas Trees in her ceramics class. She also acted as Scout Leader for the Cub Scouts when her son was a member. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Sam H. Sebastian. In addition to her husband, Mike, LaVerne is survived by, two sons, Jim (Teresa ) Basham of Scottsburg, Indiana and Joe (Deborah ) Basham of Seymour, Indiana; six brothers, Bill (Lois) Sebastian of Louisville, Kentucky, Chuck (Kathy) Sebastian of Scottsburg, Indiana, Dave (Janet) Sebastian of Salem, Indiana, Tom (Diana) Sebastian of Scottsburg, Indiana, John Sebastian of Scottsburg, Indiana, Lynn (Jayne) Sebastian of Scottsburg, Indiana; two grandsons, Jordan (Christine) Basham and Tyler Basham; four great grandchildren, Audrey, Austin, Archer, and Coramae; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Matthew Craig officiating. Visitation: 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday.
