Lawrence R. Gulley, 89 of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday July 25, 2023 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
He was born in Carroll County, Kentucky on October 4, 1933 and was the son of the late John and Bessie (Jenkins) Gulley. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Willis (Ham) Gulley; and his sister, Mary Augusta (Gus) Alexander.
He was a member of Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He served in the Marine Corp for 11 years and was an E4-Buck Sergeant during the Korean War. Larry retired twice, once as Maintenance Mechanic at Indiana Army Ammo Plant and once as a Maintenance Mechanic for Scott County Government.
Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering in his garage, tending to his flowers and visiting with his neighbors. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sara (Carter) Gulley; daughter, Lisa Anne (Lynn) Elliott of Scottsburg, Indiana; daughter, Sue Linn (George) Ross of Jeffersonville, Indiana; son, Mike (Rita) Rose of Louisville, Kentucky. He had seven grandchildren he loved spending time with; Rachel Ross, Nathan (Ruthie) Ross, Michael Lee (Lisa) Rose, Caitlin (Thomas) Matanich, Bridget (Jake) Wicklliff, Ashley Elliott and Fiance, Nick Maher, and Levi Elliott. He also had eight great grandchildren he was very proud of; Izabella and Izaiah Ross, Daniel Lee Rose, Lily, Carter, and Zeke Ross and Capri and Banks Matanich.
Larry is also survived by his sister, Bess (Bill) Tomlin of Covington, Kentucky; a brother John Henry Gulley of Scottsburg, Indiana; brother in law, H. Dee (Susan) Carter of Florida; sister in law, Nancy Carter; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service with Military Honor Services 1:00 pm Monday, August 7, 2023 at Scottsburg Cemetery with George Ross officiating. After the service everyone is invited for a celebration of life and fellowship at the Collins Family Center in Scottsburg, Indiana. Interment at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
