Linda Sue Ridener

Linda Sue Ridener, 76, of Austin, Indiana passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, at Paoli Health and Living in Paoli, Indiana. She was born on January 10, 1950, in Scottsburg, Indiana, to the late Howard and Hazel Marie (Jester) Nicholas. Linda was known for her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit. On November 24, 1986 Linda married the love of her life, Sammy L. Ridener, and he preceded her in death on August 31, 2025. Throughout her life, Linda dedicated herself to serving others. She worked proudly as a server at Old Hardy's Bar on the square, where she was not only a cherished employee but also a beloved friend to many. In addition to her career, Linda was an active member of the Women Auxiliary of the Legion at Post 234 where she served as a past officer, the Moose Lodge, and contributed to the VFW Auxiliary. Linda had a passion for the simple joys in life. She was an avid reader, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, and was renowned for her culinary skills. She loved nothing more than sharing her famous zucchini bread and delicious desserts with neighbors and friends. A true embodiment of the old ways, Linda practiced generosity and community spirit, often seen canning fruits and jellys to share with those around her. In addition to her husband of thirty-nine years, Sam, Linda was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Thomas Jeffrey "TJ" Richey. Linda is survived by her son, Greg Richey of Scottsburg, Indiana; her brother, Ron Nicholas of Scottsburg, Indiana; her sisters, Joyce Ward of Austin, Indiana and Brenda Collings of Hanover, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Linda Ridener will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 1:00pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be prior to the service on Thursday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Collins Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana. Memorial donations can be made in Linda's name to the Scottsburg American Legion post #234 in c/o Collins Funeral Home.
