Mable Fern "Sue" Middleton, 85, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed into the arms of her Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg. She entered this life on February 21, 1937, in Crothersville, Indiana, the seventh of eight children born to James Raymond Owen and Eva L. (Dobbs) Owen. Sue was a 1955 graduate of Crothersville High School. Soon after graduation, she met and married her husband and soulmate, Robert Dewey "Bob" Middleton of Lexington, Indiana, on July 30, 1955. They remained devoted and steadfast to each other for the next 64 years until his death on January 7, 2020. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Sue worked at a variety of jobs outside the home throughout her life, most notably as a Speech Therapy Aide for Scott County School District 2 in the 1970's. Her hobbies included quilting, cross-stitching, and gardening. She and Bob loved to take bus trip vacations and attending craft shows where they sold the merchandise that they designed and made. Sue was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Scottsburg and the Red Hat Society. She and Bob were members of the Lexington and Scott County Historical Societies and were active in many other philanthropic and charitable organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, four of her siblings, and her husband. She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey L. (Tami) Middleton of Francisco, Indiana and Mark A. (Celia) Middleton of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Carla Scales (Justin), Jillian Lyman (Chad), Craig and James Middleton; three great-grandchildren, Danielle and Owen Scales and Gavin Lyman; two sisters, Rosalie Richey and Mildred Julian, both of Scottsburg; and a brother, Melvin Ray Owen of Tennessee;. Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Rev. Don Summerfield officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022 and Noon to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment will be at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana.
