Maralyn Jane Murphy, 91, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, with her family by her side.
She was born on October 14, 1934, in Scottsburg, Indiana, to Hollis and Miriam Dismore. Maralyn graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1952 and went on to attend Indiana University Southeast for two years.
Maralyn dedicated much of her life to serving her community. She worked as a clerk at Old Gladstein Clothing and the Scott County License Branch. She also spent ten years as a substitute teacher at Scottsburg Elementary School and served as an assistant school nurse and cafeteria employee at Scottsburg High School. Maralyn was also on the Scott Memorial Hospital Guild.
A devoted member of First Christian Church, Maralyn was deeply involved in many aspects of church life. She served as a Bible school teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher and chairman, as well as a music worship assistant. She also played an important role in organizing and supporting the Living Christian Tree and Easter special programs for 25 years.
Above all, Maralyn cherished serving others and found great joy in her family, friends, and community.In addition to her parents, Maralyn was prededed in death by her daughter, Debbie Murphy; brother, John Dismore. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, James Ronald "Ron" Murphy of Scottsburg, In; daughters, Laura Ann Alger(Doug), of Oxford, Alabama, Karen Sue Jenkins(Brian) of Greenville, Indiana; sister, Carol Thomas of Scottsburg, Indiana; along with six grandchildren, Monty Stutsman(April), Jennifer Fouts(Tyler), Patrick , Laura, Abigail Alger, Hannah and Seth Jenkins; and six great grandchildren, Hannah Stutsman, Ava Stutsman, Elle Stutsman, Lola Fouts, Luke Rivers, Emi Rivers.
There will be a visitation held on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 4-8pm at Collins Funeral Home. Service will be on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 1pm with visitation before from 11-1pm at First Christian Church, 255 W. McClain Ave, Scottsburg, Indiana 47170. Burial will follow at Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial Donations in honor of Maralyn can be made to American Parkinsons Disease Association or First Christian Church Lookout Class of Scottsburg, Indiana.
