Obituary

Marjorie Ann (Buzzard) Brodt, 94, of Carmel, Indiana, formerly of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on January 7, 2022 in Carmel. She was born on July 17, 1927 in Austin, Indiana, the daughter of the late Emery James Buzzard and Esther Thelma (Maines) Buzzard. Marjorie graduated from Shields High School in Seymour, Indiana in 1945. She then earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1964 and Master's Degree in Education in 1969 from Indiana University while raising four boys. Marjorie was a First-Grade teacher at Austin Elementary School in Austin, Indiana from 1955 to 1956 and then spent the next 28 years as a Second-Grade Teacher at Scottsburg Elementary School before retiring. She was married August 29, 1947 and spent 68 wonderful loving years together with her husband, Fred O. Brodt, who preceded her in death on May 27, 2015. Marjorie and Fred were avid fans of IU sports, enjoyed traveling around the United States and to foreign countries, and were members of a Square Dance club. Marjorie was on a bowling league and enjoyed reading. She was a member of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church; a member and former President from 1952 to 1953 of the Alpha Pi Chapter of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority; member and past Worthy Matron from 1955 to 1956 of the Eastern Star Chapter #107 in Scott County, Indiana; and a member and former Secretary of Delta Kappa Gamma. In addition, Marjorie was a longtime volunteer for the Scott Memorial Hospital Guild, and a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. In addition to her husband and parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by a son, Fred Emery Brodt, and a sister, Betty Everitt. Survivors include three sons: Phil Brodt of Port Townsend, Washington; Eric Brodt (Nancy) of Carmel, Indiana and Jeff Brodt (Dianna) of Brentwood, Tennessee. She is also survived by a sister, Jackie Stevens, of Columbus, Indiana; six grandchildren whom she adored, Chanda Welsh (Kevin), Chad Brodt (Jessica), Jeremy Brodt (Gia), Ashley Boulais (Andre), Lindsey Pendleton (Ricky) and Jessica Coulter; and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana on Thursday, January 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at Collins Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Cremation was requested following her service with burial at a later date in the Scottsburg Cemetery.
