Marvin L McGlothlin, 82, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana surrounded by family. He was born near Harrodsburg in Monroe County, Indiana on September 17, 1939, the son of the late Herschel W. and Lydia (Nellinger) McGlothlin. He married Linda Lowry on August 29, 1959, and this union of 63 years was blessed with six children: sons Tim and Matt (Melanie) McGlothlin and daughters Tamah (Tom) DePriest, Terah (Randol) Woolbright, Lyn (Jerry) Lyon and Beth (Chris) Colson, all of Scottsburg, Indiana.
A 1957 graduate of Scottsburg High School, Marvin earned a Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry from Hanover College and later a Master of Science degree from Purdue University. Marvin also served as a reservist in the Indiana Air National Guard while attending college. In 1961, Marvin began a 37-year career as an educator at Scottsburg High School. He taught mathematics and served as chairman of the Math Department until his retirement. After retirement, he served for a time on the Scott County District II school board. While his teaching career was rewarding, Marvin's greatest career rewards came from serving as the minister at the Scottsburg Church of Christ. For over 50 years, Marvin served in that capacity for the local congregation. While he was proud of the achievements of his many mathematics students, he was the happiest with the accomplishments and faith of the congregants of the church.
An avid outdoorsman, Marvin was a passionate "beagler." He along with grandson, Adam DePriest, were known for raising and training beagle hounds for field trials all through the region. He made many friendships throughout the country from this hobby. He greatly enjoyed fishing for walleye with his sons, grandsons and sons-in-law in Canada and Minnesota. Additionally, he was a die-hard supporter of Indiana University athletics.
In addition to his loving wife and children, Marvin is survived by a brother Dr. Wylie (Ann) McGlothlin of New Castle IN, grandchildren: Todd & Ryan McGlothlin, Kate Short, Adam DePriest, Sara & Luke Woolbright, Anna Reynolds, Leah Dixon, Erin Hewitt, Hali McGlothlin, Lara McGlothlin, Mallory McGlothlin, Wyatt McGlothlin, Mara Polk, Macy Colson and Abby Colson; nineteen great grandchildren (with another on the way), multiple brother and sisters-in-law, countless cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe McGlothlin in 2018.
Cremation was chosen with all arrangements being handled by Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg.
