Mary Ann Shields, 88, passed away on September 11, 2024, at The Springs at Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, with her daughter by her side. Mary Ann was born on January 8, 1936, in Salem, Indiana to the late Allen and Rae (Garriott) Thompson. On October 23, 1959, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Farrell E. Shields, who passed away on June 13, 2008. She dedicated many years of service at the old Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana. Mary Ann was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Leota, Indiana, where she taught Sunday School. She was also an active member of the Ideal Home Extension Club. Not only a dedicated worker and community member, Mary Ann was a loving mother to her son, Greg, cherishing their shared experiences together, particularly while chaperoning trips with the Band of Warriors. Mary Ann was also very fond of traveling and going on bus trips across the United States. One of Mary Ann's greatest joys was tending to her plants and flowers, nurturing them with the same love and care she bestowed upon her family and community. Above all, Mary Ann found immense pride and joy in her grandson, Benton, who brought light and laughter to her life. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Rae Thompson; husband, Farrell E. Shields; and her son, Gregory Shields. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Janet Shields and her life partner, Michael Warzbok and her grandson, Benton Shields. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 12:00pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Reverend Bruce Bridgewater officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
