Mearl Gene Berna, 66, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Lake Iola Assisted Living in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was born on December 16, 1953 in Scott County, Indiana, the son of the late Mearl E. Berna and Anna (Parks) Berna. Mearl graduated from Scottsburg High School in the Class of 1972. He drove a truck for Haas Cabinet Company in Sellersburg, Indiana for many years and retired as a self employed independent truck driver. Mearl was the owner of the old Mearl's World Classic Cars and was a franchise owner and distributor for Built Rite Storage Buildings. He enjoyed horse racing, basketball and spending time with his family and friends. Mearl was very proud of the fact that he had traveled to all 50 states and also Canada. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jeff Deaton. Survivors include two daughters, Kerri Lynn Earl of Scottsburg, Indiana and Lisa Marie Marcelle (David) of Madison, Indiana; two brothers, Larry A. Berna (Lynn) of New Carlisle, Ohio and Andrew F. Berna of Scottsburg, Indiana; three sisters, Mary E. Jones, Florence I. Burton (Bill) and Karen A. Deaton all of Scottsburg, Indiana; five grandchildren, Gracie Earl, Jessica Berna, Trinton and Courtney Davis and Lucy Marcelle; two great grandchildren, Karsyn Schrink and Tatum Davis and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Lexington Cemetery. Funeral services may also be viewed on Collins Funeral Home's Facebook page at 2:00 pm on Sunday. Visitation: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Sunday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation and services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed.
