Melvin R. "Mel" Allen, 87, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg, Indiana with his family by his side. He was born on January 10, 1936, in Orange County, Indiana, the son of the late Murl Allen and Gladys (Connell) Allen. On September 22,1956 he married Mary E. (Trotter) Allen, who passed away August 20, 2017. Melvin was a member of First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was a very active member at his church, he had been a deacon for many years, Sunday school teacher, and trustee. The church was his pride and joy, Mel even helped build the church. After 32 years of dedicated service, Mel retired from Cummins Engine Company. He was a charter member of the Scott County Moose Lodge #2324 and a great supporter and proud member of the Scott County YMCA. Mel enjoyed fishing and mowing, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was a very present and active in his grandchildren's lives. In addition to his wife of sixty years, Mary, and parents Mel was preceded in death by one grandson, Evan Michael Hayes Allen; and four siblings, Jean Owens, Cecil Allen, Norma Bennett, and Rex Allen. Survivors include his son, Terry L. (Debbie) Allen; daughter, Karen (David) Everett; five grandchildren, Jessica Allen Feder (Kevin), Benjamin Everett (Chynelle), Jared Everett (Michael), Ryan Everett (Kelsey); and one great grandchild, Hayes James Feder. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Monday, October 16,2023 at the First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana with Pastor Kevin Sills & Pastor Mark Spencer officiating. Visitation: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow services at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
