Melvin Patterson Ray, 89 of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Nortons Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on January 31, 1934 in Scottsburg, Indiana, to the late Jessie Melton Ray and Elizabeth Jane (Ashabranner) Ray. Melvin was a retired employee for the City of Scottsburg. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana and the Eagles Lodge in Seymour, Indiana. He attended Scottsburg High School. On November 1, 1952 he married Gwendolyn "Gwen" B. (Borden) Ray, who preceded him in death earlier this year. In addiation to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by, one brother Clarance Ray; infant sister, Elsie Ray; and one grandchild, Michael Lee Owens. He is survived by his son, Kenny Ray of Scottsburg, Indiana; three daughters, Jo Lord of Scottsburg, Indiana, Patti (Roger) Case of Nabb, Indiana, and Kathy Ray of Chattanooga, Tennessee; five grandchildren, James Hall, Lacey Gwen Lord, Jordan, Jesse, and Savanna Ray; and one great grandchild, Roger Melvin Ray. Visitation will be held at Collins Funeral Home on Thursday June 15, 2023 from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm with Matthew Craig officiating.
